And The Year Ends

As 2014 ends I wish everyone a Happy New 2015

Shown below is my last project for 2014.  It is my first wholecloth project.  Using one of my original applique patterns for the basic design I tried expanding my quilting skills.  This one has gone to my husband's cousin.
 This is the original applique.

The flowers and butterfly are trapunto with metallic outlines, details are done in 40 wt. poly and the background is 100 wt. Kimono silk.
Batting is 100% wool, backing and front 100% cotton.

The Cousins

My major project for 2014 was to gift each of my cousins with a personal wall hanging.  These were inspired by Cindy Needham and one of her quilted initials.

Since I mostly applique the following are my results.  I didn't dare post any photos till now as all were to receive theirs at the same time and it took from May till December to finish all five.

So in order of completion here are the Five Cousins.

IMPROVING MY SKILLS

Christmas is over now we get a small breather before all our New Year festivities.

To finish out the year I thought I would post my quilting journey for 2014.

At the first of the year I challenged myself to improve my quilting skills from basic grid work and simple stipple work, so here are some of my results.

This was fun adding lace to the edge.

OOPS, Thank goodness for color catchers that red wanted to bleed all over the place.

This was fun to design but I should have done the background quilting differently.
After watching a Sharon Schamber video I tried to incorporate some of her technique along with some trapunto.
The Guardians went to my mother's neighbor who collects angels.

FAMILY GOODNESS

Welcome to my new blog.

This is all new to me so please bear with me as I learn.

Below I have posted a small piece that I started in Cindy Needham's class.  It took awhile because I stopped, started, made a couple of Big mistakes and then finally finished.  It now has a new home with my 93 year old mother.

the Hankie is probably very fine cotton laid over silk duponi and quilted with silk thread.
